Mr. Carle died May 23, 2021. He spent much of his childhood in Germany. Carle graduated from the Akademie der Bildenden Kunste. He returned to the U.S. and was a graphic designer at the N.Y. Times and an art director for an ad agency. Carle had two grown children, Cirsten and Rolf. There is an Eric Carle Museum of the Picture Book in western Massachusetts. The author and illustrator will be remembered for his picture books. "Do You Want to Be My Friend" was a 1971 ALA Notable Book. Carle was awarded the 2003 Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal for his lasting contribution to literature for children. Updating Results ...
