Laura Ingalls Wilder Birthplace: Pepin, WI USA Author Biography Laura Ingalls Wilder was born near Pepin, Wisconsin on February 7, 1867. She died February 10, 1957. Wilder attended a one room schoolhouse, Barry Corner School. At the age of fifteen she earned her teaching certificate. The author worked as a teacher and began writing articles for magazines. She and her husband, Almanzo, had one daughter, Rose. Wilder is best known for her semi-autobiographical novels, the Little House books. The following books were all Newbery Honor Books-- "On the Banks of Plum Creek" in 1938, "By the Shores of Silver Lake" in 1940, "The Long Winter" in 1941, "Little Town on the Prairie" in 1942 and "These Happy Golden Years" in 1944. A long-running television show, Little House on the Prairie, was based on her books. An ALA Award for lifetime achievement in children's literature was named after the author. Updating Results ...
