Following graduation from the Parsons School of Design in Manhattan, Stein worked as a window-display artist, puppeteer and puppet builder, interior and set-design illustrator, and New Yorker cartoonist. Interrupting Chicken was awarded a Caldecott Honor for 2011. Stein enjoys making music, cooking, running in the woods, and talking with children and adults about books, when he is not working on a story or pictures.
