Bryan Collier Website:www.bryancollier.com Birthplace: MD Most recent address:NY Author Biography Bryan Collier grew up in Pocomoke, Maryland, the youngest of six children. His interest in art started early. He began creating his signature style of painting at the age of 15 with watercolors. In 1985 Collier won first place in a Congressional Competition and his art was displayed in the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. The same year, he was awarded a scholarship to Pratt Institute in New York City through their national talent competition. In 1989, Bryan graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Collier received the Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award for Uptown in 2001 and again in 2006 for Rosa. He has also received the Coretta Scott King Illustrator Honor for Freedom River in 2001, Martin's Big Words in 2002, and Visiting Langston Hughes in 2003.
