She received a B.A. from the University of Oklahoma and did graduate work at the University of Missouri. Bauer worked as an English teacher and taught creative writing to adults. The author and her husband, an Episcopal priest, have two grown children, Peter and Beth Alison. Bauer is best known for her young adult novels in which young people cope with traumatic events in their lives, but she also writes a significant number of picture books. "Foster Child" was a Golden Kite Honor Book in 1978. "On My Honor" was a SLJ Best Book and a Newbery Honor Book in 1987. Updating Results ...
