Leonard Wood, Missouri on July 29, 1952. She graduated from Lawrence University and worked as a children's book editor. As a teenager she was fired from her part-time job in the public library for reading too much. Krull is married to Paul Brewer, a children's book illustrator. Her hobbies include gardening, quilting and travel. She also enjoys author visits. The author is sometimes known as Kathleen Cowles. Krull is best known for her nonfiction picture books, such as the Lives of series. "Gonna Sing My Head Off!" was a Notable Trade Book in Social Studies, an ALA Best Book, and an IRA Children's Choice for 1993. "Lives of the Musicians" was a 1993 Boston Globe-Horn Book Nonfiction Honor Book, an ALA Notable Book, an IRA Teachers' Choice and a Golden Kite Honor Book for 1994.
