Her father was Conrad Aiken, a well-known writer. She attended Wychwood School in Oxford and then worked a variety of editing jobs for the BBC, St. Thomas Hospital and the United Nations. Aiken and her husband Ronald, who died in 1955, were the parents of two children, John and Liz. The author's hobbies included painting and gardening. Aiken is best known for adventure novels.
