David Macaulay Birthplace: Burton-on-Trenton, England Most recent address:Providence, RI USA Author Biography David Macaulay was born in Burton-on-Trenton, England on December 2, 1946. He moved to the United States at the age of eleven and later graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design. Macaulay worked as an interior designer and as a Junior/Senior High School art teacher. Later, after publishing a number of books, he became a lecturer at the Rhode Island School of Design. The author and illustrator has been married twice and he has one daughter from his first marriage. Macaulay is best known for his pen and ink picture books that explain the principles and processes of construction and architecture. "Pyramid" won the Christopher Medal and was a Boston Globe-Horn Book Nonfiction Honor Book in 1975. "Cathedral" was a Caldecott Honor Book in 1974, as was "Castle" in 1978. "Castle" was also a Boston Globe-Horn Book Nonfiction Honor Book in 1978. "Underground" was named a SLJ Best of the Best. "Black and White" was a Caldecott Medal Winner in 1991. "Mosque" was an ALA Notable Children's Book 2004. In 2006, Macaulay won a MacArthur Genius Award. Updating Results ...
