Lowry died May 25, 20201. Her father was an Army dentist and the family traveled to posts around the world when Lowry was young. She went to both Brown University and the University of Southern Maine for her undergraduate degree. The author then went on to receive a Master's Degree. She married a Naval officer and they had two girls and two boys by the time she was 25. Lowry enjoyed spending time at her farmhouse in New Hampshire gardening and feeding the birds. The author will be remembered for her novels. Anastasia Again!" won the American Book Award in 1980. "Autumn Street" was an ALA Notable Book in 1981. "Rabble Starkey" was a Boston Globe-Horn Book Fiction Award Winner in 1987. "Number the Stars" won the Newbery Medal in 1990, as did "The Giver" in 1994.
