He received a B.A. from Queens College and then a Master's in Business Administration in 1971. Adler worked as a math teacher and then as an editor of juvenile books. The author and his wife Renee have three sons, Michael, Eitan, and Eddie. He is a big Yankee baseball fan. Adler specializes in picture book nonfiction and chapter books. His Cam Jansen mystery series is well known, as is his series of books about Andy Russell. Also well-known is his Picture Book Biography series. The author's "Picture Book of Jewish Holidays" was an ALA Notable Children's Book in 1981. "Roman Numerals" was a Children's Choice Book.
