She received a degree from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain in 1959 and a Master's Degree and Doctorate at the Pontifica Universidad Catolica del Peru. The author is currently a Professor of multicultural education at the University of San Francisco. Ada is the mother of four grown children. One daughter, Rosa Zubizarreta, translates and edits many of her mother's books. The author is best known for her picture books with Hispanic and multicultural themes. She received the 1992 Christopher Award for "Gold Coin," the Parents Choice Award for "Dear Peter Rabbit," and the 2000 Pura Belpre Medal for "Under the Royal Palms."
