She received a Bachelor's Degree in Education from New York University. Blume is married to George Cooper and she has three grown children, Randy, Larry and John, and one grandchild. Because of her work for the freedom of speech, she was awarded the Carl Sandburg Freedom to Read Award in 1984 and the American Civil Liberties Union Award in 1986. Blume is best known for her young adult novels. She received the Ludington Award for her contribution to children's literature in 1983. She also received the Margaret A.
