He went to Brown University to study Psychology and British and American Literature and graduated in 1985. Following graduation, he moved to Boston to study drawing and painting at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. Brian created Op/Ed page illustrations for many magazines and newspapers, including the Boston Globe, Christian Science Monitor, and the Chicago Tribune. He illustrated his first children's book in 1989. Brian enjoys bicycling, woodworking, and tending a big vegetable garden behind his house. He is interested in old-fashioned food preparation, and, sometimes makes his own kimchi, sauerkraut, cheese, and other things. Rough Patch received a Caldecott Honor in 2019. Updating Results ...
