School Library Journal - 09/20/2024 Gr 2–4—Twins Emma and Martín are settling into their new life in Chicago after growing up in Mexico and can't wait to use the magic book their abuela gave them to take another adventure. But first they must register for their new school where they discover they will be in separate classrooms for the first time ever. When they finally get home to the magic book, they embark on a new escapade, experiencing the Aztec legend of Ometecuhtli and the Beginning of all Things. This second installment of Emma and Martín's "Legendarios" series reads like ancient Mexican myths mixed with Mary Pope Osborne's beloved "Magic Tree House" series, complete with occasional Spanish words, black-and-white illustrations up to full page in size, and an author's note on both Aztec culture and deities. The twins' heritage is briefly discussed and celebrated, and their strong relationship with their abuela features prominently. Emma and Martin model excellent problem-solving skills and teamwork throughout. The action resolves with more adventures promised to come. VERDICT This action-packed series is a must-buy for early chapter book collections.—Emily Beasley - Copyright 2024 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
