School Library Journal - 07/25/2025 PreS-Gr 2—Keyana McGee is full of big ideas for Halloween costumes. She and Aunt Ruby have created a beautiful "fairy garden mother" outfit, and younger brother Miles is going as his favorite character, a "green-horned snorkelbot." When Aunt Ruby's Great Dane races for the door and Miles gets caught in the rush, he falls, and his costume is torn. Keyana comes up with a "ginormous" plan to help a tearful Miles repair his costume and get back in the holiday mood. The pair creep into Aunt Ruby's deep, dark walk-in closet, which Keyana explains is a "spooky Forest of Missing Pieces," filled with screeching hanger birds, beady talking vines, and the perfect bits to recreate Miles's look. Digital illustrations with tones of purple, orange, and green throughout give the spreads a cohesive, cheerful look. Keyana and her family are Black. VERDICT A warm look at turning disappointment into an opportunity for creativity. Recommended for holiday shelves where the series has been popular.—Jennifer Costa - Copyright 2025 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.

School Library Journal - 10/01/2025 Gr 1–4—Keyana is a compelling character, cute and bursting with creativity as she prepares for Halloween. Her personality is on display from the title page, which features her sketched costume ideas. When Halloween plans go a little awry, her imagination comes through to save the day. Fixing the problem of a crushed costume becomes a grand adventure, as she leads her little brother into a closet to find costume pieces. But it's more than just a closet–it's an enchanted forest, with wonder and danger in every corner. The story is wonderfully adept at juicy descriptions, with similes and sensory language abounding as Keyana elaborates on her magical Halloween world. VERDICT An entertaining take on creative solutions and the power of imagination to solve problems. - Copyright 2025 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
