Booklist - 06/01/2023 Sweet and silly, Potter’s new chapter-book series, Squirrelish, takes the wild premise of a girl raised by squirrels in Central Park and runs with it. The story gets going as Cordelia, now eight, awakens in her tree house, fizzing with excitement over the knowledge that it’s Nut Day. Feeling festive, she dons her football helmet and fairy wings—both pilfered from the park’s lost and found—and bounds over to wake her squirrel dad, Shakespeare, so that they can start gathering nuts for the winter. When a sneaky squirrel steals Cordelia and Shakespeare’s butternut stash, Cordelia gives chase and draws a (human) crowd with her acrobatic skills, leading to high jinks outside of the park. Every bit of this book is a delight, from the imaginative details (squirrels speak Chittering) and grayscale illustrations to Potter’s clever solutions for practical questions (How does Cordelia know English? What does she eat?).
