Full Text Reviews:

Booklist - 01/01/2023 This appealing volume uses a Q&A format to engage children in learning about the Titanic. Arranged chronologically and covering many topics, the clearly written text tells why the ship was built and how much it cost as well as how the ship sank, whether the band really did keep playing until the end, and what changes in maritime law took place because of the Titanic’s disastrous maiden voyage. In the pages describing daily life for the passengers, an illustration provides three sample menus, giving readers a chance to compare the breakfast fare provided for first class, second class, and steerage. The back matter offers a glossary but no indication of source materials. In the many illustrations, Nelson shows particular finesse in her use of colors, which varies from the full spectrum in some scenes to a more subtle palette of similar tones in others. The illustrations indicating the settings and clothing look true to the period, and people’s emotions are suggested by their facial expressions and body language. An attractive, informative book on a perennially popular topic. - Copyright 2023 Booklist.
