Booklist - 02/15/2023 In this sequel to Dakota Crumb: Tiny Treasure Hunter (2021), Dakota’s cousin Julien writes to the adventurous mouse, asking her to locate “a rare book about lost treasures” and including a cryptic symbol as a clue. Dakota finds the symbol on a bookstore’s door and ventures inside. She follows another clue up to the second-floor shop and another into the children’s section, where the intrepid adventurer is appalled to find “a sleeping monster,” a dog that wakens and trots along behind her. Dakota enters a mouse-size doorway on a high shelf. Surprise! It’s Dakota’s birthday party, and Julien gives her a book on tiny treasures. Seek-and-find fans will particularly enjoy the last page, where Michalak offers a peek at 18 objects illustrated in Dakota’s little book and invites kids to look through their picture book’s illustrations again to discover each prize for themselves. Murphy’s distinctive pen-and-ink artwork, digitally colored with subtle hues, is lively in its portrayal of the mice and stunning in its depiction of Paris. A playful picture book packed with hidden treasures. - Copyright 2023 Booklist.
