Booklist - 05/01/2020 Bats have an unfortunate and unfair reputation for being creepy creatures of the night, but Milner’s wonderfully informative book sets the record straight, inviting young readers into the fascinating world of nocturnal mammals—or “tiny superheroes”—and delving into all aspects of their vital importance to our delicate ecosystem. An incredibly pleasing layout, filled with colored panels addressing various aspects of bat life, makes it easy to digest an avalanche of information. The pages are entirely populated with vivid, detailed illustrations that are also adorable and sure to win over new bat fans. The expected topics are covered—geography, diet, biology—in addition to information on bats’ contributions as pollinators, seed dispersers, and pest control. One sobering section discusses the issues facing many declining bat species, but the book also provides readers with concrete ways to help. After reading, young readers will be eager to spread the good word about their new favorite nocturnal critters and make the world a more bat-friendly place. - Copyright 2020 Booklist.
