Booklist - 03/01/2019 This sequel picks up where the first book ended. Drest, daughter of the warlord Mad Wolf, is still in trouble and on the run from Lord Faintree's usurping uncle, Sir Oswyn. Worse, Sir Oswyn has wasted no time in putting a wolf's head bounty, the highest paying bounty, on Drest's head, claiming that she killed Lord Faintree. Now, not only does she have to be on guard for the usual ruffians, she has to avoid the knights who know who she is. Her father and brothers have their own problems, so Drest and injured young lord Emerick are on their own. Magras maintains the breathtaking pace of the previous book, and while Drest is as feisty as ever, by the end of the book she has developed into a deeper, more thoughtful character. She challenges her father to rethink his perception of what constitutes a warlord and his band. In addition to all the action, the book is laced with humor while maintaining an undercurrent of thoughtfulness. No sophomore slump here: the book is every bit as good as its predecessor. Includes a glossary and historical notes. - Copyright 2019 Booklist.
