Booklist - 09/15/2023 This is the newest book in the HarperCollins I Can Read! Comics series, which introduces young readers to graphic storytelling and helps build visual literacy. This level 1 title is targeted for beginners new to the world of graphic novels. The book features a very helpful overview of cartooning basics, leading into the stormy setting of Ty's house, where his family is packed and ready for their planned camp-out. But then lightning strikes, kicking off a torrential downpour that takes the town by storm. The quick-thinking family, rather than letting it rain on their parade, decides to camp-in to make the best of the situation. With the help of some brilliant imagination, Ty and his family enjoy a day of fishing and a marvelous night under the stars, right under their own roof. Large speech balloons and font aid emerging readers, and the clever use of childlike drawing styles during the imagined trip emphasizes the power of creative play. Families looking for beginning readers showcasing Black Boy Joy will be delighted by this. - Copyright 2023 Booklist.
