Full Text Reviews:
School Library Journal - 08/02/2024 K-Gr 2—Readers discover various sports, board games, and playground games from around the world. Le discusses the origins of basketball, the different ways hopscotch is played globally, the history of the African game Mancala, and much more. Limited text provides just the right amount of information for young readers, although some vocabulary, such as coordination and tournaments, and international terms like Hinkspiel, might be challenging for the target age group. Each page depicts children from various nations engaging in the games described. Playful illustrations are minimalistic, containing thin outlines filled with simple colors, somewhat reminiscent of David Adler's "Cam Jansen" illustrations. VERDICT A decent purchase for libraries serving young readers interested in sports and games.—Kate Rao - Copyright 2024 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
