Summary:
Everyone loves an underdog--especially when he's a cat! On a rainy morning in 1947, a small gray kitten wandered into the Hamilton Hotel in St. Louis, Missouri, two days before the Greater St. Louis Cat Club Show. A stray kitten. A fancy hotel. A serious contest for pedigreed cats. What could possibly go right?

Booklist - 09/15/2023 The Hamilton Hotel in Missouri is getting ready to host the Greater St. Louis Cat Club Show. One rainy day, Miss Duffy, the hotel’s hostess, discovers a wet kitten behind the trash cans and asks her kitchen staff to feed it. The cat sneaks into the building as the more-pedigreed felines arrive for the contest. The fancy-cat owners are distressed to see a dirty stray, so the hostess hustles him back into the kitchen, where he has already won over the staff. The cat show goes off without a hitch, but when it comes to its conclusion, two blue ribbons are yet to be awarded, and the stray's charm and sweet demeanor convince the judges to allow him to enter the contest. Mr. Silver, as Miss Duffy names him, has a winning day and a bright future. Richly colored illustrations using acrylic gouache are eye-catching and filled with details youngsters will want to study. Based on a true story from 1947, Klise’s “rags to riches” tale of a homeless feline is heartwarming. - Copyright 2023 Booklist.
