Booklist - 10/15/2023 Little Red, a little pickup truck, and his driver, Katie, are hauling an evergreen tree into Tiny Town for its tree-lighting ceremony. Snow is falling, but they never stop until their work is done. When Purple Delivery Van asks for help, Katie restarts its engine. With a busted headlight, Blue Calliope Car needs help, too; Katie installs a new bulb. Despite stopping to assist Green Fire Truck (stuck in snow), Yellow Popcorn Truck (flat tire), Orange Utility Truck (out of gas), and Shiny Silver Sleigh (broken hitch), Little Red and Katie make their delivery just in time, and the other trucks and drivers are there to cheer when, at last, the tree is lit. For young truck fans, this seasonal picture book has plenty to offer, from the work ethic of this determined pickup and its capable driver to the wintry setting with a nod to (but no mention of) Christmas. The narrative makes good use of repeated phrases, and children will happily chime in. A visually appealing picture book that’s fun for reading aloud. - Copyright 2023 Booklist.

School Library Journal - 12/22/2023 PreS—A fun story that introduces vocabulary and colors, packaged in a holiday adventure. Little Red Truck and driver Katie help people and vehicles in need on their way to bring the town its Christmas tree. When they finally deliver the tree, the vehicles they met on their adventure come out and watch while the townspeople decorate and put a giant star on top. This title does an excellent job of teaching children colors and showing a positive role model in a fun and educational way. At the end of the story, Little Red and Katie come to the rescue of Shiny Silver Sleigh. The image shows a reindeer pulling a sleigh full of people, with Santa scratching his chin leaning on Little Red, while Katie welds the front of the sleigh. Vocabulary is another strength of this title. When Purple Delivery Van's engine won't start, Little Red and Katie use "jumper cables" to help. Digital illustrations provide context for the in-depth adventures throughout the story. VERDICT With a winning combination of vehicles and Santa Claus, this lively holiday story is recommended for public and preschool libraries.—Robin Sofge - Copyright 2023 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
