Taking up Maddie’s story two years after the conclusion of The Royal Ranger? (2013), the novel features two capable (and frequently underestimated) women in leading roles. The fast-paced narrative moves well, shifting between the events unfolding at Araluen and the action taking place on Horace and Gilan’s quest.
