Booklist - 03/01/2020 Siblings Tess and Max return for their third visit to England, where, once again, mysterious events follow at every turn. This time out, they are spending their Christmas holiday at London's Sandborn House, a hotel that makes a cozy refuge from the wild weather that is raging outside. But things inside become quite odd as well when they meet Colin, a boy whom only they can see and who seemingly takes them back to the 1920s. When Max and Colin and merge into one entity, it is Tess' job to bring both back to safety and their proper times. The atmosphere is lovely, but the circumstances are at times confusing, and there isn't much character development. This is all go-go action, and it will be enjoyed most by children who want the pure excitement of time travel without much nuance. Perhaps the best audience for this are fans who've already met Tess and Max in their two previous adventures The Castle in the Mist (2017) and Carnival Magic (2018). - Copyright 2020 Booklist.
