Booklist - 12/15/2018 Chen’s debut picture book combines a love of fashion with girl-power heroism. Juno loves her favorite shoes. They don’t sparkle, light up, or have any cool patterns, like her friends' shoes, but she loves living her life in them. One morning before school, Juno can't find her shoes. As she frantically digs through her closet, she finds herself in a magical room filled with all sorts of shoes—from all sorts of people. She tries on Queen Elizabeth’s sturdy heels, Jane Goodall’s adventurous boots, Misty Copeland’s graceful ballet shoes, and Serena Williams' rambunctious sneakers. Each pair of shoes is special, not because of the outside but because some incredible, groundbreaking woman wore them. Desierto's buoyant, eye-catching illustrations are textured and colorful, capturing Juno's enthusiasm and energy. A guide with biographical facts on each of the women featured (or, at least, whose shoes are featured) in the story is included in the back matter. Facts and story combine to make this a winning addition for a bookcase or classroom. - Copyright 2018 Booklist.
