Booklist - 09/01/2018 Adorable isn’t a typical term for biographies, but the textured and patterned covers, with tiny symbols relevant to each historical figure, give a quaint appeal to these volumes in the Little Guides to Great Lives series. Although each biography is illustrated by a different artist, the visual charm continues with digitally enhanced artwork rendered in pleasing color combinations (pinks and greens; reds, yellows, and blues; etc.). Inside these British imports, too, are the stories—from early childhood to leading influences to inspiring achievements—of some of the world’s greatest thinkers and doers. Amelia Earhart describes how this female aviator became a leader, especially among women, in the early history of flight. Combining quotes (although not all sources are provided), maps, lists, and time lines with nontraditional features, these biographies will engage reluctant and avid readers alike. - Copyright 2018 Booklist.
