Full Text Reviews:

School Library Journal - 10/04/2024 PreS-Gr 2—Shea is back with a laugh-out-loud sequel to Chez Bob. Just when Bob the alligator thinks he's cornered the market on restaurants for birds, competition appears in the form of a cool pizza-slinging alligator named Ryan. The ever-insecure Bob sinks to new lows as he creates anonymous online accounts to leave negative reviews for Ryan's business, and then promptly blows his own cover. His bird friends give him a stern talking-to, he confesses his misdeeds to Ryan, and it's a redemption arc—sort of. In the end, Bob remains well-meaning but as lovably self-absorbed as ever. The book's zany humor will have kids and their adults giggling, and Bob's lack of personal growth is a major part of the appeal. His personality flaws provide readers a lighthearted jumping-off point for a discussion of feelings, communication, online bullying, and how to take accountability. Shea's expressive illustrations are bold and colorful with retro charm, drawing readers in immediately. VERDICT A strong follow-up to the first book and an absolutely delightful choice for story time or an elementary school classroom read-aloud.—Allison Tran - Copyright 2024 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
