Booklist - 06/01/2022 I am a baby and I am not sleepy. / I am not sleepy because I am a baby. As a result, Mommy is tired, Daddy is grumpy, Kitty is hiding, Puppy is overfed (from all the food Baby tosses), laundry is thrown about, and the furniture is sticky. Luckily, Grandma stops by, making everyone feel much better. As any sleep-deprived parent can attest, life with an infant can be challenging. Shea's digitally enhanced pencil illustrations feature stylized objects and characters, minimal backgrounds, and cheerful pastel greens, purples, pinks, and yellows. He depicts typical new-parent activities (attempting to assemble a play yard, tripping on stray toys, changing dirty diapers) and makes effective use of facial expressions to convey emotions. The endpapers are also notable: the front spread depicts the couple before parenthood, while the back spread is a baby album. This egocentric yet lovable infant will strike a chord with exhausted new parents, and emerging readers will appreciate the repetitive, deadpan text. A welcome addition to baby storytimes. - Copyright 2022 Booklist.
