School Library Journal - 05/01/2019 Gr 4–8—This series explores six of the most ubiquitous inventions and their history. Vibrant photos show light pollution, smokejumpers, and other riveting scenes. Each title includes a full-page feature on a major innovator, such as Steve Wozniak. Diagrams explain the basic process of each invention, such as the four-stroke engine in the automobile. A profile page focuses on a specific example, like the Nikon F3 camera. Additional facts are included in text boxes throughout the books. Archival photos show one of the first incandescent lightbulbs, the first electric computer (ENIAC), and other historical milestones. Back matter includes a time line with images. VERDICT A good addition to collections and sure to appeal to technology nerds, whether they are voracious or reluctant readers. - Copyright 2019 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
