School Library Journal - 08/09/2024 K-Gr 2—Little Witch, with her red curly hair and light complexion, prepares for her first flying test as an awkward and absentminded broom owner. After failing her first exam due to losing control of her magical vehicle, Little Witch meets Ramshackle Rat. While flying with the creature on the back of her broom, Little Witch finds that the rat's presence greatly improves her piloting skills. Will the witch community accept her unconventional flying partner as she attempts to pass her second exam? Ritchie depicts Little Witch's world in quirky swirls of fluid color and her adorable, curly locks always appear to be in motion. This is a sweet, witchy narrative, alongside messages about friendship, resilience, and following one's own unique path. Nevertheless, this title fails to provide a unique perspective on these topics and treads familiar territory previously well covered in picture books. VERDICT It is likely that the elements featured in this title are already adequately represented in most library collections. An additional purchase.—Ingrid Conley-Abrams - Copyright 2024 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
