Booklist - 04/01/2023 Eclipses never fail to generate excitement and awe among people of all ages, but what actually happens to cause them? This installment in the Mysteries of Space series (6 titles) affords young learners a peek into the shadowy world of lunar and solar eclipses, offering a breakdown of the processes at work, key terms, and the different types of eclipses (total, partial, annular, hybrid) that can occur. Despite a bland layout, the book’s text, “Explore More!” fact boxes, and frequent diagrams contain solid information, though some additional clarification may be needed for higher-level concepts. Even if they don’t understand every detail, readers will grasp the basic mechanics of these celestial events, knowing what’s casting a shadow where. Also addressed are safety protocols for viewing solar eclipses and cultural myths created to explain eclipses. - Copyright 2023 Booklist.
