School Library Journal - 04/01/2012 Gr 4–6—Six major body systems are introduced, allowing students to delve beneath epidermal layers to better understand the body's internal functions. Foundational life science concepts are interspersed with interesting facts, e.g., the tongue is unlike most skeletal muscles because it is attached to bone on just one end, stated in "In the Flesh" text boxes. Vivid diagrams are labeled and coordinated to the text. Diseases common to each system and correlative health tips are included in each volume. While highly informative, the average stock photos and dense texts might cause kids to treat the series like too much broccoli served at one sitting. - Copyright 2012 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
