School Library Journal - 05/24/2024 PreS-Gr 2—Boogie-Down Bronx! This well-known phrase comes to life in this beautifully illustrated work about the many rhythms and dances that can be heard and seen in New York City's northernmost borough. Counting up from one to 10, this festive concept book features more and more dancers moving to the beat of various dance styles. With rhyming words that create predictable patterns, Amador's Spanish translation of Azúa Kramer's original English text doubles as lyrics, and children and adults will easily be able to get on their feet by the end of the story. This book also presents various places sightseers will want to visit in this diverse neighborhood. Bright digital art is a perfect complement to the rousing song. Back matter includes descriptions of each dance and their origins and the musical notation for the performed version. This fun text will make readers want to boogie down! Latin American band Sol y Canto perform the recorded version that is accessible via a link. VERDICT This story is entertaining for every age and offers so many opportunities for engagement—choral reading, storytimes, movement breaks, and more.—Melanie Ortega - Copyright 2024 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
