Booklist - 05/01/2019 In contrast to Jenkins and Page’s Look at Me! How to Attract Attention in the Animal World (2018), which explored vibrant visual displays, their latest book focuses on animal camouflage, the art of hiding in plain sight. The book introduces 36 animals arranged by the surroundings they live in and resemble: coral reefs, trees, flowers, leaves and vines, forest floor, the arctic in winter, and rocks. The first spread in each section offers individual scenes with hidden animals. The next isolates each one against a white background, beside a smaller version of the initial scene, ready for comparison. A short note identifies the creature and comments on its concealment, while small silhouettes of the animal and a person’s hand or body indicate its size. Appended notes provide more information on the species appearing in the book. The presentation’s seek-and-find element will be particularly appealing to younger children. The artwork, collages of cut and torn papers, is beautifully textured and often striking, particularly on pages with fewer but larger images. A handsome volume. - Copyright 2019 Booklist.
