School Library Journal - 08/01/2014 Gr 6–10—This series that profiles well-known businesses (previous books include The Story of Google, The Story of Microsoft, The Story of Amazon, and The Story of Nike, which SLJ called "interesting and well written") continues with some more winners. Though books on corporate America sound like a hard sell, the large, attractive photos and beautiful design will pull in readers, and these companies—focusing on music, movies, and social media—have a fairly high "cool" quotient. Well written and well organized, the text flows smoothly, providing comprehensive coverage. - Copyright 2014 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
Booklist - 09/15/2014 The Built for Success series profiles noteworthy corporations that started small but grew to prominence in their respective fields. With a tall format, glossy pages, large color photos, and small type, the books’ design, as well as their topics, appeal to a somewhat older audience than most “skinny books” for young people. The use of previous volumes in libraries varies widely by topic, but the magazine-like writing and design of the series is consistently good. Pixar traces the company’s history from its initial purpose—the development and sale of computer animation systems—to its success with full-length animated films such as Toy Story and The Incredibles. An unusual series with a business perspective. - Copyright 2014 Booklist.
