School Library Journal - 10/01/2025 Gr 2–5—This precious series about a cozy hotel for creatures in the heart of Fernwood Forest continues with new adventures for Mona the mouse and her friends at the Heartwood Hotel. One year after a forest fire raged through Fernwood, the Heartwood Hotel feels almost back to normal, except for the mention of the fabled Golden Acorn, a legendary treasure buried a long time ago. After a mysterious visitor drops by the hotel bearing a map that might lead to the treasure, visitors come from far and wide for their chance to search. The classic storytelling and frequent black and white illustrations make for a comforting tale that readers are sure to come back to again and again. George keeps the storyline fresh and interesting without relying on old tropes and Graegin's hand-drawn illustrations draw readers into the delightful interiors of the hotel. VERDICT A great addition to the series.
