School Library Journal - 07/01/2016 PreS-Gr 1—Angus wakes up angry and takes it out on his pets. His mother reminds him that having a bad day does not excuse rudeness. She tells him that he needs to apologize. For the toddler, this scolding is the last straw, and he decides to run away. After packing an extra pair of underwear, a pair of socks, a flashlight, and his stuffed gorilla, Angus takes off down the street. As Angus travels farther and farther from home, he feels smaller and smaller as his anger shrinks. He doesn't notice his mother following him. The mixed-media illustrations show clearly the larger-than-life feelings that lead the boy to run away. He shrinks as the world around him gets bigger, until his anger has faded into fear at the large world around him. Young readers will easily relate to Angus's bad mood and the impulsive decision that leads him to run away as well as his relief at being rescued by his mother. VERDICT A good choice for talking about feelings and taking charge of them, suitable for one-on-one and small group sharing.—Heidi Grange, Summit Elementary School, Smithfield, UT - Copyright 2016 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
