School Library Journal - 01/31/2025 Gr 3 Up—This beautiful celebration of women's history uses the alphabet to organize the attributes of strong and powerful women. Each page has a short piece that highlights different character traits by letter, from Allies and Activists, to Outspoken and Organize, to Zooms and Zeal, and more. Mostly North American women are shown, who exemplify those characteristics. The vivid, brightly colored artwork reflects the joy and passion of the women depicted on the pages; the selection is diverse, including women like Ketanji Brown Jackson, Serena and Venus Williams, Edith Head, Virginia Apgar, and more, while their roles cover a wide range of jobs and interests. The vocabulary and content of the book make the information more accessible for middle grade readers and beyond, while the beautiful graphical nature of the book provides an excellent overview of women in history for readers beyond the traditional audience for ABC picture books. VERDICT One to purchase—this is compelling material with an appealing graphic look, best suited for upper elementary and grades and beyond.—Debbie Tanner - Copyright 2025 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
