Author Biography

   Eloise Greenfield was born May 17, 1929 in Parmele, North Carolina but she basically grew up in Washington, D.C.  She attended Miner Teachers College and her first job was as a clerk typist for the U.S. Patent Office.  She was later a director of the D.C. Black Writer's Workshop.  She and her husband Robert have two children and four grandchildren.  She does do author visits.
   She is known for many types of children's books, from poetry to novels to picture books.  Her books often feature a tightly knit African American family modeled after her own family.
