Author Biography

    Ed Young was born November 28, 1931 in Tientsin, China. He studied at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, the City College of San Francisco, the University of Illinois, and Pratt Institute, New York, where he taught as well. Young had a brief career in advertising in New York. The author/illustrator and his wife are the parents of two daughters, Antonia and Ananda.
    Young has illustrated more than seventy books and he received a Caldecott Honor for "The Emperor and the Kite" in 1968 and for "Seven Blind Mice" in 1993.   He received a Caldecott Medal and a Boston Globe-Horn Book Picture Book Award for "Lon Po Po" in 1990.
