5.3.10 The shortlists for the 2010 Kate Greenaway and Carnegie Medals for distinguished picture books and children’s novels published in the United Kingdom have been announced by the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals. They have awards in four categories—fiction, nonfiction, poetry and an overall children’s book award. 2.16.10 The Center for the Book of the Library of Congress and the Children’s Book Council have appointed a new National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature. Katherine Paterson, two-time Newbery Award winner, will serve in this position for the next two years.
